WELDING SKILL TRAINING PROGRAM – SINGLE PROCESS » |

The purpose of Welding Skill Training at the MEITI School of Welding is to teach the welding techniques and manipulative skills required for each major welding process. Welding technique is stressed above welding theory – as the students must be able to meet the welding performance demands of industry. Consequently, a minimum amount of course time (10% to 20%) is spent on book and classroom study. The remaining time is used for supervised welding
practice. |

Upon completion, the student should be able to perform production welding, millwright and general maintenance welding.
|
Course Objective: To be able to produce quality multi-pass fillet and groove welds in all positions using E6010, E6011 and E7018 electrodes. This course also provides skills to perform as an Arc Welder, Production Line Welder, Tack Welder and the arc-welding portion of Combination Welder.
Course content: This course provides the student with a thorough technical understanding of arc welding, welding safety, arc welding power sources, electrodes classifications and selections. It also provides training to develop the skills necessary to make quality shielded metal arc welds (fillet & groove) in all positions on carbon steel from 3/16 inch to 1/2 inch plate, single and multiple pass, using mild steel, low hydrogen, and iron powder electrodes, with DC welding current.
Performance tests: To pass this course, the student is required to take 4 written tests. The student shall also pass the complete workmanship qualification tests and a standard performance qualification test in 2G (horizontal) and 3G (vertical) positions. Performance is measured using visual examination and bend test in accordance with the requirements of AWS QC10-2004.

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to perform bridge code welds and other related structural work, as well as pipe welding.

Prerequisites: The student must have successfully passed the MEITI Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMA100) course. Student desiring to be trained directly to SMA 101 without taking up the SMA100 course shall pass the performance qualification test for the SMA 100 course as per the requirements of AWS QC10-2004 (Specification for the Qualification and Certification for Entry Level Welders).
Course Objective: To produce quality multi-pass fillet welds and groove welds, all positions, on carbon steel or stainless steel plate using stainless steel electrodes. In addition, to produce fillet welds, all positions, and 2G, 5G and 6G groove welds on carbon steel pipe using E6010 and E7018 electrodes.
Course content: This course provides training to develop skills necessary to produce quality multi-pass groove welds with or without backing on carbon steel or stainless steel plate in all positions. It also provides the student with a thorough understanding of pipe welding, and helps to develop the welding skills necessary to produce quality multi-pass welds on 6” diameter schedule 80 carbon steel pipe in the 2G, 5G and 6G positions, using E6010 and E7018 electrodes.
Performance tests: To pass this course, the trainee is required to take 4 written tests. The trainee shall also pass an all position workmanship qualification test, on carbon steel or stainless steel plate using stainless steel electrodes, and shall pass a 6G limited thickness qualification test on carbon steel pipe, with or without baking, using the shielded metal arc welding process, in accordance with the requirements of AWS QC11-96

technical understanding related to Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW).

Prerequisites: The trainee must have successfully completed the MEITI Shielded Metal Arc Welding
Advanced course SMA101.
Students desiring to be trained directly to SMA 102 without taking up the SMA100 and SMA 101 course, shall pass the performance qualification test for the SMA 100 course as per the requirements of AWS QC-10-2004 (Specification for the Qualification and Certification for Entry Level Welders and SMA 101 course as per the requirements of AWS QC-11 96 (Specification for the Qualification and Certification for Level II Advanced Welders).
Course Objective: To be able to produce quality groove welds in 6G and 6GR positions using carbon
steel or 300 series stainless steel pipe.
Course content: This course provides the trainee a thorough technical understanding to produce multi-pass groove welds in the 6G position (multiple fixed position) on carbon steel or 300 series stainless steel pipe, using E3XX-15/16 electrodes. Also in the 6GR (restricted, multiple fixed position) on carbon steel pipe, using E6010 or E6011 and E7018 electrodes.
Performance tests: To pass this course, the trainee is required to take three parts summative tests closed book examination. The trainee shall also pass a 6GR unlimited thickness range performance qualification test on carbon steel pipe and 6G limited thickness range performance qualification test on carbon steel or 300 series steel pipe using stainless steel electrodes, as per the requirements of AWS QC12-96.

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to perform production and maintenance welding on mild steel including high volume fabrication, automotive assembly and repair.

Course Objective: To produce quality multi-pass fillet welds and groove welds on carbon steel plate in all positions, using short circuiting transfer. Quality is determined through visual inspection and mechanical testing according to AWS requirements.
Course content: This course is designed to provide the trainee with a thorough technical understanding of welding safety, gas metal arc welding equipment adjustment, metal transfer and shielding gases. It also provides training to develop skills necessary to make quality gas metal arc welds in all positions on carbon steel plate, single and multiple pass, using short circuit transfer and spray transfer. The course also illustrates problems associated with welding situations and provides corrective information.
Performance tests: To pass this course, the trainee is required to take two written tests. The trainee shall also pass complete workmanship qualification tests, visual and guided bend tests in the horizontal, vertical down and overhead positions, in accordance with the requirements of AWS QC10-2004.

Upon completion of this course, the trainee should be able to perform structural welding, production welding on light, medium and heavy assemblies, as well as to perform service and transmission pipeline related work.

Prerequisites: The trainee must have successfully passed the MEITI Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMA100)
course.
Student desiring to be trained directly to GMA 101 without taking up the GMA100 course shall pass the
performance qualification test for the GMA 100 course as per the requirements of AWS QC10-2004 (Specification for the Qualification and Certification for Entry Level Welders).
Course Objective: To develop the trainee’s ability to produce quality fillet and groove welds on carbon steel and aluminum using spray transfer. In addition, to produce quality single V-groove welds on 6 inch diameter schedule 80 carbon steel pipe in the 2G and 5G fixed positions.
Course content: This course provides training on spray transfer other than short-circuiting which provides for high deposition rate for all position welding. It also provides the trainee with a thorough technical understanding of gas metal arc welding, preparation for welding pipe and pipe welding defects. It provides training to develop the skills necessary to produce quality groove welds on 6-inch diameter schedule 80 steel pipe in the 2G and 5G positions.
Performance tests: To pass this course, the trainee is required to take two written tests. In addition, the trainee shall pass an all position workmanship qualification test on aluminum using spray transfer. The trainee shall also pass a combination pipe and plate workmanship qualification test using GMAW on carbon steel, in short circuit and spray transfer modes, in positions 2F, 5G and 5F, as per the requirements of AWS QC11-96.

Student desiring to be trained directly to GMA 102 without taking up the GMA100 and GMA 101 course, shall pass the performance qualification test for the GMA 100 course as per the requirements of AWS QC10- 2004 (Specification for the Qualification and Certification for Entry Level Welders and GMA 101 course as per the requirements of AWS QC-11 96 (Specification for the Qualification and Certification for Level II Advanced Welders).
Course Objective: To be able to produce quality groove welds in 6G position on carbon steel pipe using pulsed spray transfer and short circuiting transfer.
Course content: This course provides the trainee a thorough technical understanding to produce multipass groove welds in the 6G position (multiple fixed position) on aluminum pipe using pulsed spray transfer , 3/64 or 1/16 diameter E4043 or %5XXX electrode and 100% Argon shielding gas; and using short circuiting transfer , 0.035 diameter E70S-X electrodes and a 75% Argon CO2 shielding gas.
Performance tests: To pass this course, the trainee is required to take three parts summative tests closed book examination. The trainee shall also pass a 6G limited thickness range performance qualification test on carbon steel pipe short circuiting transfer and on aluminum pipe using pulsed spray transfer, in accordance with AWS QC12-96.

Course content: This course is designed to provide training develop welding skills on carbon steel by practicing to produce quality fillet and groove welds, all positions, using the Flux Cored Arc Welding self-shielded electrodes and gas-shielded electrodes as well.
Performance tests: To pass this course, the trainee is required to take two written tests. The trainee also shall pass workmanship qualification test in accordance with the requirements of AWS QC10-2004.

(FCA100) or the MEITI Gas Metal Arc Welding course(GMA100).
Students desiring to be trained directly to FCA 101 without taking up the FCA100 course, shall pass the performance qualification test for the FCA 100 course as per the requirements of AWS QC10-2004 (Specification for the Qualification and Certification for Entry Level Welders).
Course Objective: This course enables the trainee to produce quality fillet and groove welds on carbon steel, plate and pipe, using small diameter electrode wires, large diameter gas-shielded and self-shielded electrode wires. This course also develops skills for arc welders.
Course content: The trainee will take corrective actions to repair surface flaws in welds or in base metals. Practices also include making fillet welds, all positions, on carbon steel pipe and plate, using selfshielded and gas-shielded electrodes. In addition, the trainee will make 2G and 5G groove welds, on carbon steel pipe and plate, using self-shielded and gas-shielded electrodes.
Performance tests: To pass this course, the trainee is required to take two written tests. The trainee also shall pass a combination pipe and plate workmanship qualification test using self-and gas-shielded FCAW in the 5G – 5F positions, in accordance with the requirements of AWS QC11-96.

pipe using self-shielded and gas shielded electrodes.
Course content: This course provides the trainee a thorough technical understanding to produce multipass groove welds in the 6G position (multiple fixed position) on carbon steel pipe using 1/16 diameter E71T- 11 self-shielded and 1/16 diameter E71T-1 gas shielded electrode.
Performance tests: To pass this course, the trainee is required to take three parts summative tests closed book examination. The trainee shall also pass a 6G limited thickness range performance qualification test on carbon steel pipe using gas shielded and selfshielded electrodes, in accordance with AWS QC12-96.

Upon completion of this course, the trainee should be able to perform production and maintenance welding on carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum.

Course Objective: To be able to produce fillet and groove welds on carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum in the flat, horizontal and vertical positions, using the gas tungsten arc welding process. This course also develop skills for arc welder, production line welder, tack welder and the arc-welding portion of a combination welder.
Course content: This course provides the trainee with a thorough technical understanding of gas tungsten arc welding, arc characteristics and welding safety. It provides training to develop skill necessary to make quality fillet and groove welds, all positions, 10 through 18 gages, on carbon steel. The trainee will also make 1F-2F fillet welds, 1G groove welds on aluminum using aluminum filler metals and tungsten electrodes, 1F-3F fillet welds and 1G-2G groove welds on stainless steel using stainless steel filler metals and tungsten electrodes.
Performance tests: To pass this course, the trainee is required to take two written tests. The trainee also shall pass three workmanship performance qualification tests on carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum in accordance with the requirements of AWS QC10-2004.

Course Objective: To be able to produce quality groove welds on 6” diameter schedule 80 carbon steel pipe and quality fillet and groove welds in different positions on carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum.
Course content: This course provides the trainee a thorough technical understanding to produce 3F-4F fillet welds and 4G groove weld on aluminum sheet. In addition, to produce 4F fillet welds and 3G-4G groove welds on stainless steel sheet. Practices will enable the trainee to produce fillet welds, all positions, on carbon steel, aluminum and stainless steel round tubing and to make 2G and 5G groove welds on carbon steel, aluminum and stainless steel round tubing.
Performance tests: To pass this course, the trainee is required to take three written tests. The trainee shall also pass a combination (round tubing and sheet) workmanship qualification test using GTAW on carbon steel, aluminum and stainless steel in the 5F-5G positions, as per the requirements of AWS QC11-96.

Students desiring to be trained directly to GTA 102 without taking up the GTA 100 and GTA 101 course, shall pass the performance qualification test for the GTA 100 course as per the requirements of AWS QC10-2004(Specification for the Qualification and Certification for Entry Level Welders and GTA 101 course as per the requirements of AWS QC-11 96 (Specification for the Qualification and Certification for Level II Advanced Welders).
Course Objective: To be able to produce quality multi-pass groove welds in the 6G (multi-fixed position) on carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum around tubing using applicable filler metals, tungsten electrode and shielding gas.
Course content: This course provides the trainee thorough technical understanding and adequate practical exercises to produce mufti-pass groove welds in the 6G (multi-fixed position on carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum round tubing.
Performance tests: To To pass this course, the trainee is required to take three parts summative tests closed book examination. The trainee shall also pass a 6G limited thickness range performance qualification test on carbon steel round tubing 2-1/2” ø , also two 6G limited thickness range performance qualification tests on carbon steel or stainless steel round tubing with 2-1/2’’ ø using stainless steel electrode and a 6G limited thickness range performance qualification test on aluminum round tubing or pipe 2-1/2” ø as per the requirement of AWS QC12-96.
